Enthusiastic Amateurs

Again I find myself all alone in the Enthusiastic Amateur studio with my orange soda and pulled pork sandwich (Shout out to Kings County BBQ, best in NYC).  No matter, we’ll have friends next week.  For this week I’ve crammed together a bunch of songs I love.  No order and no theme.  If pushed  on it, and clearly you are going to push, I’d say the first half is an eclectic mix with some avand-garde, some garage rock from Japan some Jazz and a little of the (relatively) new Animal Collective.  The second half has a few new bands and some classic tracks from the last few years.  After the regimentation of The Rece$$ion Mix I was ready to just cut loose a bit.  Merci.

Ben Brunnemer (one half of Neon Cobra) and I get together for the much touted soundtrack episode.  We nerd out on Dixie beer zombie movies and Giallo,  and Rambo.  Somewhat in that order.  This podcast is chock full of everything from seventies synth to Isaac Hayes all the way to Kris Kristofferson.  Plus Mick Jagger makes two appearances and neither is off the Freejack soundtrack (phew).  It runs about an hour and a half and there is a bit more talking than usual but it was so much damn fun.  There was SOOOO much we didn’t get to that we’re already planning a sequel.  Hit me up if you want to see another Soundtrack installment.  Ben Deejays an ultra fun party in the basement of Von (#3 Bleeker St. here in NYC)  on Wednesday nights. I know what Prez BO said this week and I’ll tell you, I for one am hoping this bullshit recession is over by the time summer gets here.  I’ve got summer cocktails that need drinking.  Well, until everyone gets their act together we’ve got the Recession mix…  Hopfully this makes losing your shitty job a little less shitty.

This week I’m forced by my good nature and sense of ol’ times sake to acquiesce to my friend John’s request for a Mixtape. John is a fantastic painter forging a new and hopefully more interesting life for himself in Allemagne. I’m not sure what makes this a “John Mixtape” other than I say so but I’m hoping the combination of French tracks and a German language interlude (along with an almost entirely British playlist) will satisfy his unbelievable high standards. I’m also hoping some people not named John enjoy this mix, as mixing music solely for people with one name is pointless and also very silly. This mix has three versions of La Chanson de Slogan, which is frankly, the most allowed by law.
